Portraits: 2nd prize singles

The artist Kara Walker. She is known for her work dealing with African American history, largely during the period of slavery and the American civil war. Walker uses the genteel 19th-century art-form of silhouette to graphically depict abuses of the time. The photographer employed daguerreotype, another process of the period, to reference and pay tribute to Walker's work |
